John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit by his popular-folk hits Many of them were based in Colorado. When they hear you come from Colorado. Brown declared. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short time in folk music bands was Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the track in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver could hear an early version of the song and realized it would become a top 10 hit. After performing the song at Washington D.C. to a massive crowd, Denver released the song a couple of days later.
